Whirlwind: UK and Ireland in 2000

This will actually eventually be several pages about my recent trip to the UK and Ireland. For now, these are the pictures that I've had time to put up. Full text and the usual commentary will follow soon enough!

This first set of pictures is from Galway, Ireland.

To the left, Lynne at the cliffs of Moher. The cliffs are 200 meters tall and absolutely breathtaking! There is nothing to stop you from going to the edge of the cliffs, but it's a good idea to sit down so you don't get blown off!

Here is Scott at the Cliffs of Moher
Here is another one of me at the cliffs.
It's amazing that there are cows right across from the cliffs and they don't even know that they're in such a beautiful place! (That was a joke, really.)
Below are two panoramic pictures of the cliffs. These still don't do justice to the majesty of the place. So go! Go see it for yourself!!

Of course, we did other things in Galway as well. Here are Scott and Lynne at a dinner at Knappogue Castle (yep! Dinner in a real castle!)
And here are dancers who performed during the dinner (they were also the waitresses! I thought that ours looked like a young Helen Mirren.)
We stayed at a B&B in Gort, which was about 1/2 hour from Galway City and right near the Burren. I liked this sign. It made me laugh
Dierdre, the woman who owned the B&B (The Woodley). She was very into feeding us! Cup of tea and pie on arrival, and waaaay too much food for breakfast. Scott sneaked a picture of Dierdre and me before we left.
Before we left the Republic of Ireland, we stopped for the morning in Galway. Galway had many pedestrian streets like this one, and lots of great shops. I bought crystal for my parents and cousin's wedding in Galway, and I bought an Aran sweater for me.
We ate at a nifty place that was filled with American nostalgia. It was much cooler than the fake-nostalgia places that we have in the US. Funny, right? Anyway, the niftiest thing was that I ordered a bagel with lox and got a bagel with lox and three salads! This was the first of my food pictures on the trip. I think Scott stopped me after Londonderry. hehe.
Here I am at our table. That's Rick from Casablanca in the background. It was so appropriate!!
Galway has a remaining portion of a medieval wall, and it happens to be incorporated into a shopping mall! Here is Scott in front of the wall.
Scott took a long time setting up this picture. hehe. I think he was aiming for the big wall-height thing.
After Galway, we went to Sligo. That's where Yeats lived. We went to see Yates's grave and got some really beautiful landscape pics around the area. It was one of the places that I really wished we had had more time in. (It was pretty funny, too, because I just finished taking an Auden class, and Auden hated Yates, so I had to erase all of the bad stuff I had just read about Yeats!) The three pictures following are also from Sligo.

More to come soon!
