New Year's Eve in Disney World!

About two weeks before New Year's Eve, 1999-2000, I realized that I had absolutely nothing to do on what was possibly going to be the coolest night ever. Quickly deciding to remedy this, and after a few false starts, Fleur and I decided to go to Disney World. So we packed ourselves up and went! Here's Fleur and me at around 6:00 PM on New Year's Eve. Disney provided the hats and noisemakers.

This was a most amazing trip! I arrived on December 30, but Fleur didn't show up until night on the 30th, so I got to spend some time in the parks without her. (Actually, two women from my hotel hung out with me on the 30th during the day, but that's another story.) I had the chance to check out the Magic Kingdom and some of the MGM Studios. Below, here I am as a Mouseketeer! Also, this Orang Utan character (anyone know his name?) gave me this entirely huge hug!

Fleur showed up at around 8:00 on the 30th and we went back to the Magic Kingdom. It was so much fun! First we had to push our way through the after-crowd from the fireworks, but then we made it to the rides! Here we are on the teacups!

There was a store in Tomorrowland that we just had to get a picture of! We tried to get a bag with the store's name, but they only had Disney bags. (It was a Science Fiction store, by the way. What did you think it was?)
On the 31st, we tried to get into Epcot Center, but no such luck. We later found out that 60,000 people were at Epcot Center on New Year's Eve! Anyway, we managed to get into the Magic Kingdom, and we had a great time. Unfortunately, we lost one roll of film, so we don't have too many pictures from that day! Anyway, here is Fleur in the sun on the Riverboat cruise. Oh yes, it was an average of 70 degrees every day! Not bad for December!

They gave out hats and noisemakers at 5:30, and everything got really festive really quickly. We took a break to go on some rides. Here we are on the Merry-Go-Round. Soon after this were the AMAZING fireworks. Sadly, I didn't have a good enough camera to capture it on film!

It took us a long time to get home that night, and we slept in on January 1. That evening we went to Epcot Center to eat at the Morrocan Pavillion. The food was good, but it felt kind of strange to eat at a Morrocan restaurant while sitting at a regular table (not on the floor). Oh well, it was yummy anyway, and there was a good belly dancer.

Here is the Moroccan Pavillion, where we spent a lot of time eating and shopping for nifty stuff. Fleur bought a necklace. I didn't get anything.
Here you can see Paris in the background. Funny story about Paris. See, Scott, Yev, and Michelle went to Paris for New Year's Eve, and to be honest, I was really really envious. But, because of money and other considerations, we felt it was best that I not go with them for this particular trip. So Paris was kind of a sore subject. Anyway, because CNN showed the New Year's Eve from around the world thing, everyone kept telling me how amazing it looked in Paris. grr. But I shrugged it off and saw the Epcot version for myself.

Below are scenes from the Asian section. We went to the Chinese and to the Japanese pavillions, and at the Chinese one, there were these incredible children acrobats! It was astounding! I'm so happy that my camera was able to capture this.

Disney set up this Millennium Village place that had sections for countries like Brazil, Korea, Israel, India, and lots of other places. It was mostly shopping and food, but it was pretty cool. I think that this section is only supposed to stay open for the year 2000.
There was just so much to see! I thought that these were so neat. Epcot has these nifty fountains with jumping water! (In the background is the Spaceship Earth ride all decorated for 2000. But first, Flamingos! I had never seen flamingos before! They're so nifty and PINK! I completely thought that these were Disney animatronic flamingos, but then we got up close and they were real! That is so cool!

Of course, what would a trip to Disney World be without pictures with characters? Here, Fleur poses with Eeyore, Pooh, and Tigger!

And here I am posing with Tigger, Pooh and Eeyore!

Our trip is almost done! Here, Fleur and I pose in the awesome car that Fleur rented for the trip! Yep! We drove around Orlando in a red convertable!

And that's just about it! I had some pictures of us looking dead tired at Orlando Airport, but I thought I'd spare everyone the embarrassment. Florida is definately the place to be when it's December and the Northern and Mid-Atlantic states are freezing their butts off. I would recommend Disney World for New Year's Eve to just about anyone. It was a great time, with great friends and a party that only Disney could provide. :-D
